CHAPTER 01

Out of the city, into pine.

The road leaves Srinagar quietly, the traffic thinning within the first few kilometres as the land begins to fold into forest. This is the easy part of the drive — wide, paved, forgiving.

Budgam, the last flat ground.
CHAPTER 02

Budgam, the last flat ground.

Past Budgam the road narrows through village lanes before the real climb begins. This is the last stretch of flat driving before the grade steepens toward Khansahib.

CHAPTER 03

The climb to the meadow.

The final fifteen kilometres do most of the climbing. Switchbacks tighten, the pines thin out, and the meadow opens all at once — wide, green, and quiet, ringed by peaks that hold snow well into June.
